Now for the main attraction. Today I have a newcomer to the sewing blog scene. Amanda from Heartland Happy is very talented, and I have a feeling her blog is about to BLOW UP! Take it away Amanda!
Hello, I'm Amanda from Heartland Happy. I am so excited to be a part of Calling All Kids! This series is such a fun idea and it has really made me think outside of my normal box! Earlier this month I made a dress for my daughter that is outside of her normal wardrobe, which she adores. Alida was so kind and included it in a round up from a Saturday Linky Party. Thanks again! :)
Today however I've got something for my little guy. He's a pretty typical little boy, into wheels, destruction and cats. Yes, he's loved cats for a long time! It's by far his favorite animal. So I wanted to incorporate cats into a summer outfit for him.
I love prints and so I decided to play with that element of traditional boys clothes rather than with colors. If you see prints used in boy's clothing it is usually trucks or monsters or space stuff. Which are all great, and we definitely have some items with those things on them. I just thought cats could be fun!
I went looking for a print that was cute and not too girly. When I found this, I knew this was the one! I drafted my own shorts pattern last summer for him, but knew I needed a bigger one. I was feeling kind of lazy and not wanting to draft one, so I perused blogland and used Calia's shorts pattern in a small 2T. What a great community we have for ideas and tutorials! I added pockets and used red thread for an accent.
I love how this turned out and am looking forward to him wearing it outside when it is warm enough, probably warmer than the 50 degrees it was here today! I snapped these pictures in about 5 minutes today before bringing him back inside!
I hope his love of cats continues, it is fun to embrace our children for who they are and the things that they like. Thanks for the opportunity to be here today Alida!
I just love the kitty print! Way to think outside the box :-) Make sure you go to Heartland Happy and FOLLOW HER! This girl is going places.
