We were finally able to have a proper birthday party for Elinor and Charlotte over the weekend! (That means no one in our house was vomiting, had a fever, or a hacking cough. Woot woot!)
I decided on a candy theme, because I thought it would be fun and girly.
The cake was inspired by this cake on Hip Hip Hooray! It was pretty easy to do, and it's oh so fun. I couldn't find a tutorial anywhere but I winged it as usual...and I was pretty pleased with the results. If anyone is interested in a tutorial let me know and I'd be glad to share!
With this cake you have to cut the top off each cake to level it and cut the sides off as well to show the pretty cake colors. Naturally, I couldn't let the cake scraps go to waste so I made cake balls. If you want a great cake balls tutorial I suggest visiting Bakerella.
I also found some fun heart shaped marshmallows, so of course I had to have those too!
I kept the decorations simple but colorful. I bought table cheap plastic table cloths, balloons, paper plates and napkins in rainbow colors. I saw this idea on Pinterest and tried to copy it as best I could. (I cannot find the real source of the photo in the link, if anyone knows where it came from I'd love to give the blogger credit.) The chandelier kind of got in the way, but it was still really fun!
The cake was a HUGE hit with the kids. The slices were so huge I had to cut them in half height-wise just to fit them on the cake plates! And of course they each enjoyed a Blowpop after cake...what kid wouldn't want that? Heck, what adult wouldn't want that?
No? Just me? :-)
