The decorations are in the works, my Pinterest Birthday Board is brimming with good ideas. Now to make them all come to fruition on a dime!
How much do you usually spend on a child's birthday party? Sunday is Care Bear's 3rd birthday and we're having a big party for her, her first real birthday party. I have been chosen to speak at my MOPS group about throwing a birthday party on the cheap, so I want to know from all of you...what do you normally spend on decorations, games, favors, cake, food, etc? Keep in mind that it is a large party, 30-40 people.

I usually try to keep my parties $100 or less. By the time you get the food for that many people it'll probably take you up to $50 (if you're partying at mealtime) and then once you add in the paper products, decorations, and party favors you get pretty close to $100. Of course, there are always ways to make it cheaper. :-)
ReplyDeleteFor a kids birthday, if I'm trying to be cheap, I stick with $100 as well but usually this is about 10 guests. If I am feeding 30-40? it's no longer a cheap option and would consider $250 a great bargain with a lot of creativity required.
ReplyDeleteGood luck :)
for decor, drinks, games, party favors I think $200 is reasonable. But if you could do it for under $200 for 30-40 people, it would be amazing.
ReplyDeleteI would say $100 for 10-20 people, but $150 or so for 30-40. I think the key is not to speak about a specific total dollar amount, but to focus on ways to save. Such as, keeping the decorations and food simple, not having the party at a time where you would have to serve a meal, making the food yourself (or some easy semi-homemade options), getting creative with crepe paper and other less expensive decorations, etc. Just because you want to save money, doesn't mean you want it to look or feel "cheap". But we don't all need to spend money on printables and other "in" things to have a really great party.
ReplyDeleteI try to do ten guests for fifty dollars including food and favors so that would translate to 150-200 for your party.
