Spring is here outfit makeover!

Call me lazy (...or crazy) but when I am refashioning clothes I try to cut them as little as possible. So I set out to make an easy, no-cut pair of capris out of Caroline's old jeans. I have to say I think they came out pretty cute!

Before...
Here is the AFTER!

Here is what you need:
Jeans
Ribbon
Buttons
Stabilizer

First you cuff our jeans, press and measure from the inside to the outside:
Then add an inch and cut 2 lengths of ribbon. Heat seal both ends of the ribbon, then it's time for a buttonhole! This is the most important step...put tear away stabilizer on the back of the ribbon.
Then make your buttonholes. (If you're scared to do buttonholes I bet you could use velcro!)

Next you will mark where the top of the cuffs are with a pin on the inside of the jeans, turn them inside out and sew the ribbon on where you marked.
Now mark the top of the cuff on the outside of the jeans and sew your button in that spot.

Ta-da! Now use the rest of your ribbon for a sash!

(I realize that these are not quite capris at this point, did I mention Sweet Caroline has short little legs?!)

Wondering about the shirt and hairbow? Here is how I did those:
Cut the sleeves off of your shirt.

I used pinking shears around the edges to make it a little prettier :-) Then I scrunched it like so...
Then put a line of hot glue over top of the scrunchy part and hot glued a thin ribbon around it. Then I hot glued it to a hair clip. Easy!
I didn't bother to hem the arms, they won't fray!

  1. That is a super cute idea! I keep thinking I need to do something like this with some old jeans of Carsons, but make them cute for Brynlee. Great thinking!

  4. Just found your blog. I love it. Thanks so much for the inspiration. I am going to learn to sew this summer. I love crafts and decorating, so I'm going to love getting to finally learn to make my 3-year-old dresses. Her name is Caroline too.
